Our guidelines ensure Desi Connect remains a respectful, safe, and welcoming space for all members of South Africa's Indian dating community.
By using Desi Connect, you agree to follow these community rules. These rules exist to protect all members and ensure everyone has a positive experience. We enforce these rules consistently and fairly — violations may result in warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.
1. Be Respectful & Kind
Treat every member with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, appearance, beliefs, or preferences.
Do
- Use polite and considerate language
- Respect when someone declines your interest
- Appreciate cultural and religious diversity within our community
- Give people the benefit of the doubt
Don't
- Use abusive, threatening, or degrading language
- Harass or repeatedly contact someone who hasn't responded
- Make derogatory comments about anyone's appearance, caste, religion, or background
- Engage in body-shaming or appearance-based bullying
2. Be Honest & Authentic
Authenticity is the foundation of meaningful connections. Represent yourself truthfully.
Do
- Use recent, accurate photos of yourself
- Provide truthful information about your age, location, and background
- Be upfront about your intentions (dating, friendship, or matrimony)
- Disclose relevant information like marital status honestly
Don't
- Use someone else's photos or catfish other members
- Misrepresent your age, marital status, or other key details
- Create fake profiles or impersonate others
- Exaggerate or fabricate aspects of your life
3. Communicate Appropriately
Our platform is designed for meaningful connections, not inappropriate solicitations.
Do
- Start conversations with genuine, thoughtful messages
- Be patient and give people time to respond
- Keep initial conversations friendly and respectful
- Express interest in getting to know the person beyond appearances
Don't
- Send unsolicited sexual or explicit messages
- Spam users with repetitive or copied messages
- Use the platform for solicitation of any kind
- Share explicit or sexually suggestive content
4. Photo & Content Standards
All photos and content shared on Desi Connect must meet our community standards.
Do
- Upload clear, well-lit photos that accurately represent you
- Include at least one photo that clearly shows your face
- Share photos that reflect your personality and interests
- Keep all content family-friendly and appropriate
Don't
- Upload nude, sexually explicit, or provocative images
- Share photos containing violence, weapons, or illegal activity
- Post images with offensive text, symbols, or gestures
- Upload photos that include minors (children)
5. Zero Tolerance Behaviours
The following behaviours will result in immediate and permanent removal from the platform.
Do
- Report any violations you encounter to help keep our community safe
- Support other members who may be experiencing harassment
Don't
- Any form of hate speech, racism, casteism, or discrimination
- Threats of violence, intimidation, or blackmail
- Sharing other members' private information without consent (doxxing)
- Scamming, fraud, or attempts to solicit money from members
- Creating accounts while under a ban or suspension
- Any illegal activity including solicitation of minors
6. Respect Cultural Diversity
Desi Connect celebrates the rich diversity of South Africa's Indian community. We welcome members from all cultural backgrounds.
Do
- Celebrate and learn about different Indian cultural traditions
- Be open-minded about inter-cultural and interfaith connections
- Share your cultural background with pride while respecting others
- Ask respectful questions to learn about other cultures
Don't
- Discriminate based on caste, sub-culture, language, or skin colour
- Make assumptions about people based on their cultural or religious background
- Pressure others to conform to specific cultural or religious expectations
- Use cultural differences as a basis for mockery or exclusion
Enforcement & Consequences
We take violations seriously. Our enforcement approach is proportional to the severity and frequency of violations:
Warning
First minor violation — a formal warning is issued with an explanation of the rule broken.
Temporary Suspension
Repeated minor violations or a single moderate violation — account suspended for 7-30 days.
Permanent Ban
Severe violations, repeated offences after suspension, or any zero-tolerance behaviour — permanent removal from the platform.
How to Report a Violation
If you witness or experience a rule violation, please report it immediately:
- Use the Report button on the member's profile or message
- Select the type of violation from the provided categories
- Add any additional details or evidence (screenshots recommended)
- Submit your report — our team reviews all reports within 24 hours
